Overview True transformation begins with the guidance and empowerment of young people. CTLaD’s Youth Mentorship and Personal Development Programme nurtures the potential of boys and girls across Sierra Leone, developing confidence, resilience, and leadership skills that equip them to become agents of positive change in their communities. Through structured mentorship, life-skills training, and consistent community presence, CTLaD prepares young people to navigate real-world challenges, make informed decisions, and build strong moral foundations.
Where We Work CTLaD operates active mentoring groups across Sierra Leone, including Freetown communities (Morthaim, Tengbeh Town, Grafton, Red Pump, Hill Cot, and Bathurst Village) and provincial areas (Kamakwie, Kamawornie Village, and Makeni). Each group is tailored to the specific needs of its community, creating safe and supportive environments where young people learn and grow together.
Our Approach — Six Core Pillars
Life Skills and Decision-Making: Mentees learn to identify challenges, build problem-solving abilities, and make informed choices rooted in integrity, responsibility, and personal growth.
Career and Job Readiness: Young people are exposed to practical career paths and taught the values of hard work, professionalism, and continuous learning.
Health and Well-Being: Sessions on nutrition, personal hygiene, mental health, and substance abuse prevention help youth develop habits that promote lasting wellness.
Leadership and Community Engagement: Participants are encouraged to take initiative, lead with empathy, and serve as role models — understanding that true leadership is about service and impact.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Education: Open, respectful, and inclusive dialogues help adolescents make responsible decisions and develop healthy self-regard.
Menstrual Health and Support: CTLaD provides monthly sanitary pad supplies and menstrual hygiene education to adolescent girls, ensuring no girl misses school due to her natural biological process.
Parent–Child Dialogue Sessions CTLaD recognises that effective mentorship extends beyond the young people themselves. Our Parent–Child Dialogue Sessions create safe, open platforms for families to have honest conversations about the challenges and opportunities shaping their lives. Facilitators guide discussions around academic performance, communication gaps, parental involvement, and family expectations — cultivating empathy, accountability, and shared responsibility.
“When parents listen, children learn — and when both understand, communities thrive.”
Our Impact Through consistent mentoring, CTLaD has established multiple mentoring groups across Freetown and rural provinces, reached hundreds of youth with life skills and health education, built leadership qualities in mentees from diverse backgrounds, reduced school absenteeism through menstrual support, and strengthened community values by instilling discipline and empathy in young people. Many mentees have gone on to lead school clubs, volunteer in local causes, and mentor others — a testament to the sustainable impact of this work.
